Today, we meet Hubert and his smooth-haired dachshund Thylia, who share their life in Cannes with us—a heartfelt love story proving that a dachshund can truly change your life.
Can you introduce yourself and Thylia: her name, her dachshund size, her coat type, and tell us a little about what she’s like on a daily basis?
Thylia is a smooth-haired miniature dachshund, black and tan in color. She is an extremely affectionate, highly intelligent, and athletic dog.
How did Thylia come into your life and why a dachshund?
Adopting a dog was my ex’s idea. I finally gave in after three years. I got hooked on looking at listings, and her puppy photo just melted my heart.
I grew up on a farm with lots of horses, dogs, cats, chickens… To me, adopting an animal means knowing how to dedicate time and love to them.
I chose the dachshund because it’s a fairly rare type of dog: compact, but with the personality of a big dog!
Based on her coat: what do you think makes her personality unique compared to other dogs?
I don’t know if the coat type really affects personality, but Thylia certainly has a lot of it. She knows how to get what she wants with just a look, or even with little noises. She is very obedient, but also very stubborn.
How does Thylia accompany you in your daily life, whether at work or elsewhere?
We live together.
From morning to night, she almost never leaves my side: at the office, at the golf course, at restaurants, on vacation… Everywhere I go, she is there. I even skip certain places if she can’t come along.
What is your fondest memory or a standout moment you’ve experienced with your dachshund?
My fondest memory isn’t just one single moment, but the life she gives me by her side every day. This love is indescribable.
A standout moment, however, is that I met my new partner thanks to Thylia’s Instagram account. She messaged me, we started chatting, then organized a first date with Thylia, and that’s how our relationship began.
For me, it is fundamental that the person sharing my life understands the bond I have with my dog.
If you had to describe the relationship you have with your dachshund in one sentence, what would it be?
My life has been filled with love since I started sharing it with Thylia.
