Basic Principles of Dachshund Grooming

Long-Haired Dachshund Haircuts

Paws:

To properly groom your long-haired dachshund, get yourself:

• Your brush

Take their hind paws and carefully trim around them.

Brush the hair on the top of the paws with a fine-bristled brush and, using scissors, trim the hair on top of their paws.

At the hock (where the hind leg bends, like an ankle in humans), you can trim the hair into a half-moon shape 😊

Ears:

With their adorable large ears, the dachshund is particularly prone to ear infections, which is why grooming is the perfect time to ensure their ears are healthy.

Using thinning shears, subtly and gently clear the hair around their ears.

Leave the hair about 3 cm long all over the body, while keeping a bit more length on the ears.

The puppy cut is short enough to avoid having to constantly brush out knots, but long enough for your pup to be well protected.

It is, however, important to maintain this cut, otherwise, you will have to start regular grooming sessions for your dachshund again.

Natural Cut:

As the name suggests, it is beneficial to keep your dog this way: natural!

Having hair at its natural length can help regulate body temperature and keep your dog looking simple and authentic.

One Last Thing: Dachshund Nails

After their bath and beautiful haircut, it is time to examine their nails.

Indeed, nails that are too long can hurt their paws, especially when walking on sidewalks or asphalt, which is not known for being soft.
